Short connections can work well with a little planning. Here's what to check before and during your trip.
Before you book
A connection on a single ticket is protected: if the first flight is late and you miss the second, the airline rebooks you. Separate tickets usually don't have that protection, so leave much more time between them.
Know the rules at your connecting airport
International arrivals often mean passport control, collecting bags and clearing customs before your next flight, even on one ticket. Build in more time for these.
On the day
- Sit near the front of the plane if you can.
- Check your next gate as soon as you land.
- Use the airport's train or walkways between terminals.
- Tell the crew if your connection is very tight; they may help.
